Maintaining a consistent visual identity can prove to be a challenging task, even for large and experienced teams, let alone smaller ones, and is particularly evident for organisations lacking dedicated visual identity designers. While inconsistent visual identity won't ultimately send your brand into a tailspin, it's hardly the secret sauce for boosting credibility.

Context

Nico and Flo, the founders of Ritmi, a booking agency and event promoter operating between Vienna and Berlin, faced a similar challenge. The size of their boutique agency could not fully support their big and ambitious vision at the time. Without dedicated designers on their team, they were in search of a simple, yet distinctive and bold solution for their frequent communication needs.

Challenge

We were commissioned to develop a simple yet distinctive and dynamic identity capable of supporting multichannel communication. It needed to resonate with Ritmi's youthful and trendy target audience while remaining easy enough for a non-designer to maintain consistently.

Process

When addressing the aforementioned challenge, we swiftly recognized that the most effective way for someone to successfully complete a task is by adhering closely to a predefined and meticulously specified set of rules, much like an algorithm. It didn't take us long to discover a relatable example: Josef Müller-Brockmann's 'Grid Systems.'

Algorithm-like Solution

A simple typographic grid, customized for various materials, established a clear set of rules to guide all subsequent decisions and relationships between visual elements. We adapted the grid for all communication channels, ensuring visual consistency across all platforms.
